A laptop fits a men's leather laptop bag when two measurements agree: the laptop's outer dimensions in its sleeve or case, and the bag's inner compartment. The inch size printed on either label is only a starting point. A 14-inch laptop is the easier case; a 16-inch laptop is where the details start to matter. Below is how to measure both, and what each of our Cincinati Leather work bags is made to carry.
Why does the inch size on a bag not tell you enough?
Laptop sizes refer to the screen, measured diagonally. Two laptops sold as 16-inch can differ in width, depth and thickness depending on the bezels, hinge and battery. A bag described as fitting a given size is usually describing the laptop it was designed around, which may not be yours.
Leather adds a second variable. Good leather has body; it holds its shape rather than stretching to fit. A compartment that looks generous may be narrower at the opening than at the base, or lose depth once the bag is closed. That is why measurements are more useful than a label.

How do you measure your laptop correctly?
- Put the laptop in whatever you carry it in. If you use a sleeve or a hard case, measure with it on. This is the most common mistake.
- Measure width, depth and thickness at the widest points, including feet and hinge.
- Note the charger. A large power brick changes what a slim bag can hold, even if the laptop itself fits.
How do you measure the inside of a leather bag?

- Measure the compartment, not the outside of the bag. Seams, lining and structure take up room.
- Measure width at the opening and at the base. A laptop has to pass the narrowest point.
- Measure depth from the bottom seam to the closure, then check that the flap or zip still closes comfortably with the laptop inside.
- Check for padding or a sleeve inside the bag. It protects the laptop but reduces usable space.
If you are buying online and cannot measure the bag yourself, send us your laptop model and its measurements in its sleeve before you order, and we will check it against the bag.
Which leather laptop bag for men fits a 14- or 16-inch laptop?
All three of our work bags below are made from cowhide leather and are designed for laptops under 16 inches. The outer sizes are listed so you can compare them with your own laptop.
| Bag | Type | Outer size (H Γ L Γ W) | Laptop | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The Office Men Bag | Messenger / briefcase | 29 Γ 39 Γ 7 cm | Under 16 inches | Dedicated laptop compartment; full-zip top under a flap with clip button; 1.4 kg |
| Antonio Backpack | Backpack, shoulder bag or top-handle brief | 38.5 Γ 46.5 Γ 21 cm | Under 16 inches | Foldover flap with two magnetic buttons; padded inner pockets; detachable backpack straps |
| Andrea SJ Backpack | Backpack | 40 Γ 30 Γ 10 cm | Under 16 inches | Full-zip top; dedicated laptop sleeve; two side pockets; 900 g |
How to read it: a 14-inch laptop in a slim sleeve sits comfortably within all three. With a 16-inch laptop, compare its measurements with the bag before you buy, because 16-inch bodies vary from model to model. If in doubt, ask us with the exact model name.

Is a messenger or a backpack better for a larger laptop?
For a 16-inch laptop, weight matters as much as size. A larger laptop plus its charger is a real load. A leather backpack for work spreads that load over both shoulders, which is easier on a long walk or a train commute. A leather messenger bag keeps the laptop closer at hand and looks sharper in meetings, but carries the weight on one side.
The Antonio Backpack sits between the two: it can be worn on both shoulders for the commute, slung over one shoulder, or carried by the top handle into a meeting.

For a 14-inch laptop, either works well, and the choice comes down to how you dress and travel. We wrote more about choosing a work bag that suits the way you dress in how to bring sprezzatura into daily life with a men's office bag.
What else should you think about before you buy?
- Leave a margin. A laptop that only just fits will strain the leather and the closure over time.
- Think about the rest of the day. Documents, a notebook, a charger and a water bottle all compete with the laptop for room.
- Protect the corners. Even with a padded compartment, a slim sleeve keeps the laptop's edges from pressing into the leather.
- Expect the leather to settle. Leather softens with use and moulds slightly to what you carry, but it will not make a tight fit loose. Read more in 4 things you should know about full-grain leather.

FAQ
Will a 16-inch laptop fit any men's leather laptop bag labelled 16-inch?
Not always. Laptop bodies vary between models, so compare your laptop's measurements in its sleeve with the bag's inner compartment.
Should I measure my laptop with its case on?
Yes. Measure it exactly as you will carry it, including any sleeve or hard case.
Will the leather stretch to fit a larger laptop?
Leather softens with use but does not stretch enough to make a tight fit comfortable. Choose a bag with some margin.
Is a leather backpack or a messenger better for a 16-inch laptop?
A backpack is usually more comfortable over long distances because it spreads the weight over both shoulders.
